The importance of choosing a quality bath cannot be overstated.

The first consideration when planning this aspect of your new bathroom is the primary use of the bath. How often do you choose to have a soak in the bath? If you’re a committed bather, you could indulge yourself in a whirlpool bath. If you prefer to take a shower most of the time and have a bath infrequently, you may wish to consider a shower bath. If you really don’t bathe at all, you might even decide to ditch the bath altogether, in favour of a large shower enclosure.  Or maybe your bathroom’s large enough to accomodate both.

Steel Bath vs Acrylic Bath

Most manufacturers offer a bath to suit all budgets. If you’re on a budget, in most instances  we recommend a steel bath.  Steel baths are easier to keep clean, more scratch resistant, and less flexible.  If you’ve ever had recurring problems with the seal around the rim of your bath, it could well be caused by the flexibility of the bath itself - a common fault with cheap acrylic baths.

On the other hand, acrylic baths offer a far greater choice in terms of shapes and sizes, and are “warmer to the touch”.  If you choose a quality acrylic bath and have it installed correctly, it should give you years of trouble free service.

Both steel and acrylic baths are vulnerable to impact damage. If you drop a shower head from height into the bottom of a steel bath, you’re likely to chip the enamel.  Do the same in an acrylic bath and you may even (if you’re really unlucky) cause a leaky hole or crack.
